The Municipal Corporation (MC) has allotted a tender for the repair and overhauling of the existing solid waste processing plant in Sector 25 here.
The MC had invited bids to complete the project, which will cost Rs 2.6 crore. An additional amount of Rs 3.72 crore has been allocated for the operation and maintenance of the project for a year. The project has been approved by the MC General House.
The work has been allotted to Aneie Aestechno Limited and the company will start upgrading the plant within next 15 days.
The repair work will include replacement of conveyor belts, rollers, motors, gear box, primary shredder, “trommel”, cyclone dust collector, ID fan in dryer, rotary dryer, hot air generator, ballistic separator and the ETP plant. A secondary shredder is being replaced along with repair of other machinery.
At present, about 150 metric tonnes of dry waste per day is processed, while the city produces about 200 metric tonnes of dry waste daily. The remaining is thrown at the dumping ground. Officers claim that with the new plan, the entire garbage will be processed daily.
The plant was not working properly due to obsolete machinery, said an MC official. With an upgrade of the plant, the MC would be able to process all dry waste being generated in the city.
In the term and conditions of the tender, it was proposed to overhaul the municipal solid waste processing plant and maintain and run it for a period of one year, extendable by another two years.
A total of 82 persons will be deployed for the running of wet and dry waste plant for a period of one year. The agency will also provide a JCB machine and grab tractors in addition to labour for running the plant.
