Ian Stewart (58) and Campbell Quinton Macnab (50) handed themselves to the police before they appeared in the Evander Magistrate Court on Monday, September 12.

This happened after they learned that they were sought by a multidisciplinary team which included the Secunda-based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Secunda Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime, Priority Crime Specialised Investigation (PCSI) and the Secunda K9 unit during an operation conducted in Springs, eMbalenhle and Witbank respectively on September 7 for theft of conveyor belts.

Capt Dineo Sekgotodi, spokesperson for the Hawks in Mpumalanga said during the operation Mxolisi Mona (29)and Veli Charles Mahlangu (44) were arrested, charged and taken to court on September 9 where they were joined by Adam Voges (48) who handed himself before court.

“The trio was released on warning and the case was postponed to September 29 for tracing of the remaining accused.

“In total, five accused were brought before court and later released on warning pending the ongoing investigation and the arrest of the last accused. All five suspects are expected to appear together in the same court on September 29,” said Sekgotodi.

The provincial head of the Hawks, Maj-Gen Zodwa Mokoena, applauded the multidisciplinary approach by the team and she promised that no stone will be left unturned. “We shall investigate without fear, favour or prejudiced,” she added.
