A veggie Coventry ‘fish & chip’ shop is on the market for anyone wishing to get into the catering business and perhaps even follow in the footsteps of the iconic Binley Mega Chippy. The business that’s up for sale is simply called Fish & Chips and is located in Clay Lane in Ball Hill, just off Walsgrave Road.

It was formerly known as Five Ways Fish Bar and is on the market for £180,000. It is being advertised for sale with Rosens, who specialise in fish and chip shops, cafes and restaurants.

The sales listing states: “A unique fully modernised spacious veggie fish and chip takeaway with deliveries, mostly staff operated, established in busy and densely populated city centre area having local and good passing trade, low overheads, genuine retirement sale after 22 years of ownership, potential to increase sales as popularity grows in this market.

“We understand that nine years remain on the current lease at a low rent of just £200 per week. We have been informed that the turnover is £6,000/7,000 per week, comprising 60 per cent deliveries and balance counter sale. A unique veggie fish and chip shop which is fast growing as this popular vegetarian market expands.”

The premises includes trade equipment which is described as “relatively new and very well-maintained”. Included is a Preston & Thomas range oven, a Lincat fryer and a Zanolli conveyor pizza. On the pizza theme there’s also a pizza rolling machine and a dough mixer.

The listing adds: “The vendor has personally nurtured and grown this business over the last 22 years and is now looking reluctantly to retire in the near future. What is unique is that it is a veggie fish and chip shop which attracts a whole new range of customers from far and wide, including bulk orders from local temples, from schools and the local community centres. A most interesting proposition in a growing vegetarian market.”

The property is leasehold and does not come with any living accommodation with the business, however there is a staff washroom. The listing concludes: “Located within minutes from Coventry city centre and at an particularly busy junction on an extremely active road with plenty of passing trade and car parking facilities, as well as regular trade from the well populated surrounding community. It is also close to schools, community centres, busy bus routes, local amenities and a whole range of popular shops.”
